Chamomile Flowers' tea is one of the most effective herbal teas available to relax the body and induce sleep.

Chamomile  flowers tea is a herbal infusion made from dried flowers and hot water. Two types of chamomile used are German chamomile (Matricaria recutita) and Roman chamomile (Chamaemelum nobile). They are both available with us.

The tea is made from chamomile, a plant that's commonly used to promote sleep due to its sedative effects. Chamomile also contains an antioxidant known as apigenin, which can induce muscle relaxation and sleep. Chamomile tea can relieve you from Period cramps, pain and bloating. If added to green tea, chamomile flowers can become more effective and treat painful menstrual cramps ( PMC), reduce inflamation and give you comfort to a large extent.

The active ingredients in chamomile are chamazulene, apigenin, and bisabolol. Lavender and chamomile tea work well together to create a unique blend. Chamomile contains terpenoids, flavonoids, and lactones, including matricin and apigenin.

Chamomile may have sedative effects because apigenin binds to benzodiazepine receptors and potentiates the activity at GABA A receptors (Viola et al., 1995).

You should drink one cup of chamomile tea about 45 minutes before bed if you're hoping to induce sleepiness. That will give your body enough time to metabolize the tea, and kick in the sleepy feelings.

The chamomile tea adds a full-bodied taste and a very distinct herbal flavor to the vegetal and nutty green taste. Mixing these two tea types also combines the health benefits of the herbal tea, with those of the green tea.

Brewing/Making Chamomile Flowers' Tea.

  1. Take a teaspoon of dried chamomile flowers per cup.
  2. Place the chamomile blossoms in a tea infuser,
  3. pour boiling water over the chamomile flowers, and then steep for 5 minutes.

Hot or cold — it's your choice. But if you prefer the cold version, brew the tea in hot water first and then let it cool down. This caffeine-free herbal infusion is delicious and healthier when served with honey or lemon. When it is hot outside, you can add ice cubes after steeping, for a fresh flavored iced tea.
